Thursday saw the Ladies day in Open Week take place in the form of a Teams of Three ladies event and nice conditions in the early part of the day produced the three top Teams, 3 points ahead in first place were Roberta Moore, Gaye Shaw and Irene Cosgrove with a fine score of 90pts. Runners up on 87 points were Lady Captain of the Club Anne Hamilton together with Florence Rankin and visitor Heather Fleming from Ballybofey on a B.O.T from Carol Scoltock, Sarah Hamilton and Roe Park player Jennifer Lapsley who secured Third place.

 Foyle Ladies took to the Ballyarnett fairways on Thursday in an effort to secure themselves  a trip to Royal County Down or Newtownstewart for the regional finals of the Australian Spoons and Daisy Ferguson Competitions                                                                                         

 The duo of Maureen Sheerin and Monica Mohan again lived up to their reputation by returning a fine 44pts to earn the honour for the umpteenth time of representing the Club in this very popular Greensomes event, Maureen Mc Conalogue partnered new member Irene Cosgrove to give them a run for their money finishing one point adrift on 43pts, third place went to Anne and Sarah Hamilton with 39pts.

     Lady Captain Anne Hamilton, hosted Foyle's Nor - Den Charity Open which proved highly successful for her chosen Charity The Development of Facilities for Children and Young Adults in the Sperrin Suite, Altnagelvin Hospital.

    Over 100 Ladies and Gents turned out to suppport the event which raised in excess of £2500.00.

    Rachael Chambers [ 9 ] from Dunfanaghy, took top honours in the Ladies section with a fine 39pts. However , to secure first prize she had to survive a four way break of tie which went down to the last six holes

Foyle Ladies recently held their Christmas Dinner at Pitchers after which Lady Captain Margaret Mc Carron Presented the following Prize :--                                                                       The Golfer of the Year, a tight fought Competition was won by a delighted Maureen Sheerin who has played consistently well throughout the season. An equally delighted Roberta Moore won the Foyle Shield for the fourth year in a row. Monthly Medal winners were :-- Silver Spoon - Faye Mc Grotty Silver Medal - Margaret Killen - Bronze Medal - Maureen Louden Silver Pendant - Sadie O' Kane. Birdie Tree was won by Ann Hamilton and Faye Mc Grotty was Presented with a voucher to acknowledge an Eagle achieved earlier in the year. The Christmas Hamper Competition Prizes were also Presented Margaret Killen won first Prize with Faye Mc Grotty and Myra Gough in second and third respectfully back 8 was won by Nicky Fallon and Sarah Hamilton took the front 8 in fourth place was Lorna Thompson with Agnes Mc Laughlin fifth. The Ringer Competition Prizes were also presented with Christine Mc Cafferty the Overall winner Category A [ 0 - 24 ] was won by Ann Hamilton with Myra Gough and Lorna Thompson joint second. Category B [ 25 - 36 ] was won by Marion Sayers with Nicky Fallon second.

Foyle Ladies played their " Pink Day Competition" in Aid of Breast Cancer [ Action Cancer ] on Saturday 5th October in what felt like gale force winds. MARGARET MC CARRON'S LADY CAPTAINS WEEK-END AWAY

Foyle Ladies travelled to the Hilton Templepatrick on Friday September 11th for Lady Captain Margaret Mc Carron's Week - end away. Fortunately Margaret had pre-booked the weather and we had two beautiful days to play golf. A 12 o' clock tee time on Saturday meant a very welcome lie in for the ladies after a late night for some! Margaret Andrews won the main event of the Week - end playing lovely golf and navigating the water hazards better than most. Christine Mc Cafferty won the nearest the pin with a beautiful shot on the 4th hole.

Everyone was up bright and breezy on Sunday for the 10 o' clock tee time with few complaints of tiredness or sore heads. Ann Hamilton made most of the perfect weather conditions to win Sundays Competition with Nicky Fallon Getting the nearest the pin.

Naomi Hamilton surprized everyone at Foyle on Friday last when the teenager scooped Margaret Mc Carron's Lady Captains prize. Naomi playing in her first Lady Captains Day returned a solid score of 38pts just holding of her nearest rivals by one shot. No doubt the 36 handicapper will now attract the attention of Handicap Secretary Maureen Louden who just happened to be one of Naomi's playing partners on the day. The runner-up was Carol Scoltock who held of Agnes Mc Laughlin and Sarah Hamilton on a break of tie all three players returning scores of 37pts. Despite the event being delayed for an hour due to heavy rain the weather conditions did not deter the Ladies Branch who turned out in force to honour the Ballyarnett Club's highly respected Lady Captain Margaret Mc Carron.

The past Lady Captains competed for the beautiful Louden Challenge Trophy on Friday 12th June, the Ladies were transported round the course in buggies to conserve their energy for the evenings festivities which were presided over by the present Lady Captain, Margaret Mc Carron.

The ladies were all on form on the day with some great scores returned but the best was posted by Immediate Past Lady Captain AGNES MC LAUGHLIN a terrific 41pts, she was closely followed by her sister-in -law Sheila Mc Laughlin [ 2002 ] and Maureen Sheerin [ 1997 ] finished third.

Thirty one ladies travelled to Moyola Golf Club for Lady Captain Margaret Mc Carron's Bring and Win Competition Agnes Mc Laughlin made most of the glorious weather conditions to take the Lady Captain's Prize, nearest the pin was won by Theresa Timlin and Myra Gough had the Longest Drive. The excellent day had by all was rounded off with a beautiful meal in the Club House.

Foyle Ladies held the SANDWICH CO. Charity Open In Aid of Derry & Donegal M.S. Society last Saturday in perfect Summer weather conditions. EILEEN ROBB [ 27 ] proved that she is back in form returning a great score of 39pts for victory, Myra Gough [ 16 ] was second on a break of tie from Collette Campbell [ 20 ] both players scoring 37pts.

The highlight of the day was a Hole In One from former Lady Captain Julia Kelly at the 13th hole, Julia was delighted as was her husband Maurice who was her playing partner and witnessed the ball drop in to the hole.

In the Men's Competition STEFHAN MC KINNEY [ 21 ] took top honours with a score of 41pts with Uel Kirkpatrick [ 11 ] from Coleraine finishing second with 40pts

Lady Vice Captain Ann Hamilton thanked the Sandwich Co. on behalf of the Ladies Branch for their generous prizes and tasty sandwiches at the 10th hole.

FOYLE HOSPICE CHARITY OPEN

FRIDAY 15TH MAY

Foyle Ladies Branch staged their Annual Charity Open on Friday May 15th with the proceeds this year going to the Foyle Hospice and despite the bad weather forecast 103 players turned out from Clubs throughout the North West to support the event.

MARION SAYERS, from Foyle took advantage of the dry weather in the morning to return a fine winning score of 39pts. The runner up was Lorna Thompson also from Foyle with 38pts, the Gross prize was won by Annett Elkin from Omagh with 20 gross pts.

Lady Captain Mararet Mc Carron thanked all those who supported the Charity Open and made it such a success.

CHRISTMAS 08 PRIZE PRESENTATIONS.

Foyle Ladies held their Christmas Dinner recently at Pitchers after which Lady Captain Agnes Mc Laughlin presented the Annual prizes

The Golfer of theYear,usually a tightly fought competition, was won comfortably by a delighted Eileen Robb

An equally delighted Roberta Moore won the Foyle Shield for the third year in a row. The Silver Medal was won by Lady Captain Agnes Mc Laughlin and the Bronze Medal by Christine Mc Cafferty. The Silver Spoon was also won by the Lady Captain Agnes Mc Laughlin and  Ann Hamilton won the September Pendant.

The Christmas Hampers were also presented, Maureen Sheerin winning first prize with Faye Mc Grotty and Ann Hamilton in second and third places respectfully.
